We got to Abu Dabi at eight in the evening, and our flight to Johannesburg were at ten, so I didn't have the ten hour wait that I have when coming back from Scotland every year. But the trouble with Ethiad is that they do not fly to Capetown, so I then have three planes to get onto, and as we had been to Antwerp the previous day, and walked for many miles looking at all the churches and other stuff, the old legs were a wee bitty tired, that made for some heavy going.
The flight to Johannesburg was without incident, but I thought back with a warm feeling about the lovely old Chinese lady who took me under her wing, and was so put out when I was so headstrong, but gave me a nod and a slight smile when we left the plane. I never saw her again, as she was on her way to Hong Kong!
My new neighbour was a huge African man, nicely dressed and very friendly, but as he was so big, he took up a lot of space, and I had to keep my legs primly to the window's side, as his big and long left leg had nowhere else to go but into my space. But as it was such a long flight, I was becoming a bitty worried, as I just could not sit in one position for eight hours!
Throughout the flight this man was sitting with his arm on the armrest, and all would have been well, except that his bally elbow kept on sticking into my ribs, that later felt quite battered. I kind of pushed his elbow away, and he was obliging and left my space, but not for long, and his elbow was back!
After dinner he easily fell asleep, having taken over about half of my space, his leg stretched out on my side, his elbow poking into my ribs unmercifully!
I tossed and turned until I found a reasonably comfy way to manouvre my long legs into, then watched some television until I was good and sleepy, but not five minutes after closing my tired eyes, the man started snoring! And I don't mean a nice rhythmic snore, oh no! This man had really shaken out his piping vocal instruments, and what started off as a soft hissing sound, like a Scottish piper testing his pipes, soon became an orchestra of humongous proportions, blowing, wining, scraping, and hissing, while the other passengers all sat up straight, looking around with sleep bleary eyes to try and find the source of the noise! Needless to say, I never closed an eyelid, and watched movies right through the night, and when daylight started pouring through the blinds, I was a very tired woman, as I have started off the previous morning by getting up at six, as the road to Brussels was very busy, and we had to start early to be in time for my flight!
But now I am at Trienkie and Stefan, and will be doing the last leg to my place, the six hundred kilometres left, with my little Sparkie on Monday!
